The First Stone
Our family dog, Dusty, was adopted from
an elderly lady who couldn't exercise him as much as he needed. He was with our family for
about a year before he started to show signs of old age. Dusty started to deteriorate and
we took him to the vet after a sudden change in eating habits. We discovered the worst - Dusty had a tumour in his throat.
He passed away shortly thereafter. At first, it was hard to cope with the loss of our
friend but in time we came to a point of peace. Dusty was buried in our backyard and we
made him a memorial stone to mark his final resting place. We planted flowers and placed a
bench to enjoy the special place. Since then, we've offered memorial stones for everyone
to say a special goodbye to their friend. The Artist
Michelle Raye has been developing her artistic talents from a
young age. She paints in oils and produces limited edition prints. To further expand her
artisitic skills, she attended the two year Fine Arts program at North Island College on
Vancouver Island. She discovered a new medium through a chance encounter and created the First
Stone to memorialize her friend and companion, "Dusty". Since then, she
has been creating unique memorial stones and intricate and beautiful business signs and
garden stones. While stock images are available, Michelle finds the most gratification in
creating one of a kind pieces.
